First, to Davo. I considered the screw clamps
and I was hurrying home to get to the hardware
store before they closed -- I didn't make it
so I used the factory clamp. If it leaks again,
it's outta here.
To David K, you've hit the essence of my
point. 1) Does the hose leading out of the petcock
qualify as part of 'check the petcock'?
2) He pulled the tank to do the service. If the
hose wasn't perfect, he should have connected
it correctly anyway. No dealer should send you
out of a servicing with a gas leak on a part
that they disconnected/reconnected.
My mistake was to say 'petcock' instead of
'gas leak NEAR petcock. Give these guys a chance
to misunderstand (at your expense) and they
usually do.
To J, I tried to find the leak (before the
servicing) and didn't succeed. That's why I
asked for more expert advice. That's what they're
there for -- to do the stuff that owners either
don't want to do, or can't do. It wasn't until
later when the leak got much worse that I was
able to see it.
Keep the round black things down and the
shiny side up.
